Nokia 7230

Nokia 7230: A Well-designed and Compact Slider Phone

The Nokia 7230 is a very basic phone. Without too much hi-tech functions, it’s aimed at the user who simply wants to make calls and to send texts and messages using a good-sized keypad. Available in either Graphite or Hot Pink, the Nokia 7230 is a compact, slide style device, which runs on the Nokia S40 operating system. Small, functional and with smooth curves the 7230 is classic Nokia design. Weighing 100 grams and sporting a thickness of 14.8mm, a 48mm width and a 98mm height, the 7230 is an easy phone to carry and is really ideal for those who prefer smaller, more “mobile” handset.

Nokia 7230 is equipped with a 2.2 inch TFT screen, which displays 256K colors at a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels. Images look crystal clear on the screen. Beneath the screen there is a standard navigation array that is quite simple to use. The sliding mechanism is smooth with proper amount of friction. Sliding open the phone, you will find a good-sized numeric keypad which is though a little small at first glance, is really comfortable to type text.

Entertainment wise, the Nokia 7230 features a 3.2-megapixel camera that lacks any flash capabilities and auto focus. The camera can record both video and still pictures. Photos can be taken at the maximum resolution of 2,048x1,536 pixels, while clips can be recorded with a maximum resolution of 320x240 pixels at 8fps. You can share the photos and videos to social networking sites like Flickr, Ovi share and Youtube.

Music playback is catered for of course, this phone has a built in music player, which supports a good choice of music formats, including MP3, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+ and WMA, plus support for MP4 videos. Apart from that, the device has a built in 3.5mm audio jack, so you can ditch the provided earphones in favour of your own favourites. And for those moments when you’re bored with your own music collection, or if you want to catch up with the local news station or weather report, there is a Stereo FM radio included, too.

Just as mentioned above, the Nokia 7020 is the ideal phone for those who like a simple interface in composing and sending text messages. SMS, MMS and emails are all supported and you can get in touch with your contacts very effectively. It also provides instant messaging services for Google Talk, Yahoo messenger through Ovi. You can also log-in into the Gmail, Yahoo Mail, Hot Mail and other email accounts, but it is a time consuming process. It comes with 45 MB of internal memory along with a 2GB card included as your store space. But if you find yourself in need of more space, you can simply get up to a16 GB microSD card.

In terms of connectivity, this handset only supports 3G wireless connection-not higher-speed Wi-Fi network. Data transfer is done by the USB connectivity and Bluetooth. And you can also enjoy high speed data transfer rate as this handset supports GPRS & EDGE technology. The phone also includes the free navigation feature and Ovi Maps, but does not have a built-in GPS receiver. The battery life is quite impressive, with up to 5 hour and 20 min of talk time over 3G network and 3 hour over 3G. It keeps the phone on standby for 370 hours on 3G and 395 on 2G.

Indeed, the Nokia 7230 is a basic handset. But it is well made, has a simple operating interface, and offers good battery life. If you like to keep things simple, it could be a good choice.
