Nokia 5130 Review – An Inexpensive XpressMusic Phone
Nokia 5130 is a very good phone that has the price of a midrange phone and features of a high end phone. Not everyone wants a N97 with superior office management and entertainment utilities. However, people expect their phone to be of good value providing a little more than basic features. The Nokia 5130 is such a phone that has slim and sleek looks with dimensions of 107.5 x 46.7 x 14.8 mm. It weighs only 88g and so, you can easily carry the 5130 in your pockets. The Nokia 5130 is a reliable phone and it is rightly called the XpressMusic phone as it has entertainment features as well.
The design of Nokia 5130 is impressive with a shiny plastic finish. There is a 2-inch QVGA display at the top of it. You can expect to view reasonably bright and crisp images with this screen. With a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels, the screen can display 256K colours brilliantly. The greatest advantage with the screen is that you can read the screen in all the lighting conditions. At the back, you will find a 2 Megapixel camera. You can shoot still images or record decent quality videos using this camera. The photos taken using the camera are pretty good and satisfy your need for a camera mobile phone on the go.
The Nokia 5130 uses a classic S40 interface like that of other Nokia mobile phones. A basic phone book with all necessary features is present in the Nokia 5130. As with any other Nokia mobile phone, the call quality and signal reception is very good with the 5130 as well. However, the Nokia 5130 does not feature any smart dialing facility. It is natural to expect this feature because many midrange phones provide smart dialing. You can send SMS, MMS and emails using the Nokia 5130. There is no significant change noticed in the messaging interface used in the Nokia 5130.
The music player of Nokia 5130 is good enough to listen to your favorite songs. The new looks of the player matches the overall design of this Nokia handset. You can find dedicated music keys to access the player much faster because the Nokia 5130 is an XpressMusic phone. Apart from equalizers, the Nokia 5130 offers various customization options that help you to adjust the music player depending on your requirements. There is also a FM radio that can be tuned to your favorite music channels. However, the Nokia 5130 doesn’t have visual radio like that of 5310.
The video player is pretty decent for the Nokia 5130. You can view various types of files such as 3GP, MPEG4 and much more. You can also view the videos in full screen mode and fast forward or rewind the movie. However, the small 2-inch screen still prevents you from enjoying the videos thoroughly. Using GPRS and EDGE support, you can browse the internet. There is no 3G support. The browser has basic features required for normal internet surfing. There are a few java games, but you can download more. Standard Li-Ion 1020 mAh battery powers the Nokia 5130 and provides 6 hours of talk time and 288 hours of standby time.
With a 2 Megapixel camera, lack of flash and auto focus, it is disappointing. The video recording mode is only QCIF which is suitable only for MMS. Absence of stereo loudspeakers from an XpressMusic phone is unexpected. There is no office document viewer. Modern Nokia phones are expected to have flight mode which is definitely missing in Nokia 5130. Despite these problems, the Nokia 5130 is a good seller mainly because of the package available for the cost you pay. High end design and very good functionalities make the Nokia 5130, a preferred choice for you.
