Nokia C5: What You See Is What You Get

The Nokia C5 is another of the Finnish mobile giant’s specialty phones, the classic candybar that we’ve all grown to know and love through the years.

The Nokia C5 is modestly priced, being more in midrange to lower midrange price ranges, making it a very affordable gadget indeed. And its very sporting with the 3.2 megapixel camera, solid build design and ease of use, it is definitely a bargain. The camera takes decent enough pictures, aided by its auto focus feature. There are also features such as the Symbian S60 Operating System, conference calling and video calling. The video capabilities are also not bad as well, with the C5 capable of recording videos at 144 x 176-pixels. The contacts features are also pretty extensive, and frequent users of the calling and messaging functions will surely be pleased. There is also a 2GB card usually inserted in the C5 package, so watch out for that as well.

The C5 boasts a great bevy of features for something so small, the unit being only 4.41 x 1.81 x 0.48 inches (or 112 x 46 x 12.3 mm). There is definitely something lacking though, when it comes to the screen performance, as it is hard to use under direct sunlight and is also difficult to read and see at certain angles. While these defects are certainly minor in general terms, it might also be very important to others. The build and feel of the phone is also very solid, thanks to its moderate weight (for a mobile phone) coupled with the sleek and smooth feel of the phone itself.

A 3.5mm audio jack that delivers good quality audio to speakers or a pair of headphones / earphones, and USB connectivity comes standard, along with Bluetooth. An FM radio is also present, adding to the list of entertainment and media options available to you. Call quality is also good with the snappiness and response to various inputs fast enough. The C5’s processor is an ARM11 operating at 600MHz, with 128MB of RAM. Interface remains to be one of the most user-friendly in the market, with Nokia still employing it’s tried and  tested and effective techniques to make the use of the phone easy, fast, and uncomplicated.

The battery life is one of the strongest suits of the Nokia C5, with the 1,050mAh battery reaching heights of 26 days of standby time, 12 hours of talk time, and a bit more than two and a half days for medium use, including applications and web browsing. There are also some navigational capabilities with the C5 using an A-GPS system tied up with the free to use OVI maps.

There are many phones that can be compared to the Nokia C5, but this phone is the most straightforward and classic of the lot. Despite its flaws, it is still a very worthy mobile phone to buy, and will definitely hit it off with people who prefer something simple and clean. And with fast and snappy performance, the C5 is a basic smart phone that people can use for all their basic communication needs. It’s a no frills phone that is perfect for the working guy or gal who’s always on the go and doesn’t need to be bothered by navigating complex controls and such.
