Nokia 6600 Slide: Streamlined and Elegant
Nokia phones have a distinct aura about them, and the Nokia 6600 slide is a very good example of a phone that you have no doubts about who made it.
We mean this in a good way of course – Nokia has been in the mobile phone market for a good number of years now, and with the 6600 Slide, they do not disappoint. There are a few bad points, as nothing is perfect – office viewer, smart dialling, and multitasking are all non-existent on this phone. The rest are just small quirks that anyone can get used to in time, and are too minor to mention. The rest though, is more than good enough to justify the price range it belongs to.
Sliders are advantageous because the nature of their form factor allows for them to be stored easily, as the smaller size when the unit is closed makes it easier to put away. You don’t even need to slide the keypad down when checking messages and such, in general, the keypad only comes out when you need to SMS or make a call. It’s a very sensible and practical phone to have.
The design itself is also sleek and very professional posh looking. The display is standard at the 2.2 inch 16M QVGA screen, with the 320x240 resolution. The camera, which has auto focus and an LED light, can take photos at 3.15 megapixels and VGA videos. USB connectivity also comes in standard, with an FM radio and Bluetooth but no Wi-Fi. Viewing things on the screen is great, and the 6600 probably has one of the best screens for a phone in its price range. In addition, internet use can still be utilized with the 6600 as the phone has excellent 3G connectivity and comes with one of the best mobile-based browsers, Opera Mini, pre-installed.
The whole phone is compact at 90 x 45 x 14 mm only, and is a mere 110 grams. The internal memory leaves something to be desired though, at only 18MB, but thankfully is externally expandable up to a 4GB microSD card, which is more than enough for most people.
Battery life is average to slightly above average at best, with up to 4 hours of straight talk time and 340 hours of standby time. Not excellent, but nowhere near bad either. The Nokia 6600 Slider is a straightforward phone that does all the basics that comes in a very neat and posh package, and some people just like it simple that way. The user interface is also very easy to get used to even for new users of the phone, which goes to show how much Nokia has invested in making their mobile phones one of the – if not the most – user friendly models out in the market today.
In conclusion, the Nokia 6600 is the best choice for people who want a sleek and elegant phone but do not want to deal with the complications and possibly confusing controls from a more feature-heavy mobile phone. The 6600 is basic plus a number of extra useful functions (like the MP3 playing and the FM radio) that comes in a classy package. Both in durability and functionality, it seems that the 6600 can hold its own against its other competitors, and is thus a very viable choice if you are looking for a sensible and no-nonsense mobile device.
